Box office: Thugs Of Hindostan disappoints, Badhaai Ho remains steady

Thugs Of Hindostan has ended its extended opening week at the box office on a dismal note. With a meager Rs. 2.60 crore coming in on Thursday, the Aamir Khan starrer currently stands at a total of Rs. 134.95 crore. The film is now expected to wind up inside Rs. 150 crore, which is a disappointment of epic proportions.

Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, Thugs Of Hindostan had an extraordinary pre-release buzz and many trade pundits predicted that it will become the very first Hindi film to enter the Rs. 400 crore club.

Interestingly, the Vijay Krishna Acharya directorial is Big B’s first Rs. 100 crore club film and also his highest grosser till date. On the other hand, it is Aamir’s first flop in over a decade.

The poor run of Thugs Of Hindostan went into the favor of Ayushmann Khurrana as the multiplex owners increased the shows of Badhaai Ho and Andhadhun. Both the films have been performing consistently at the box office and brought in some good moolah in the Diwali week as well.

Continuing its winning streak, Badhaai Ho raked in Rs. 10.80 crore in the fourth week, taking its grand total to Rs. 120.40 crore. Also starring Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao, the film has already achieved blockbuster status at the box office.

With two back to back successes once again, Ayushmann has become the new favorite of the industry. He was recently signed by Ekta Kapoor for an untitled film co-starring Nushrat Bharucha.

Now, all eyes are on Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 which is set to hit the screens on November 30. Directed by Shankar, it is expected to wreak havoc at the ticket windows. However, as has been the case with all big ticket releases of 2018, the fate of 2.0 will also boil down to its content eventually.
